And the Britain’s Got Talent winner is…Paul Potts!!!
Paul Potts. Everyman’s Pavarotti. We all hoped he’d do it – and he
did.
You could cut the tension with a knife as the nation waited in
anticipation for Ant and Dec (that’s Dec – always on the right) to
announce the winner of “Britain’s Got Talent’ 2007. There could be
only one winner, and from the moment Paul belted out THAT note at
the end of a truly great performance of Nessum Dorma– after winning
our hearts with his modest, shy demeanour – Paul Potts was OUR
winner.
Life will never be quite the same again for Paul Potts. When you
know what Welshman Paul went through to get to be winner of
Britain’s biggest talent show, you’ll realise just how glad that
will make him. They say what doesn’t break you makes you stronger;
well Paul, who’s endured a troubled home-life as a child, encounters
with schoolyard bullies topped off with years of ill health, should
draw strength from an obviously adoring public.
Paul wowed us all with his beautiful tenor voice but in the ends
words failed him. Luckily Ant and Dec were there to hold up this
refreshingly self-effacing man.
"I can't believe I've won it, I'm like jelly. Performing for The
Queen means absolutely everything. Thank you for believing in me,”
Paul said at the end of the show (ITV.co.uk)
Hopefully now Paul can start to believe in himself. He ended the
show surely began a career with a powerful performance of Nessum
Dorma, which earned him a well-deserved standing ovation. Yes
Britain’s got talent – Paul Potts, has it in spades.
Paul even got to Simon Cowell, who described him as "a shy and
humble guy with a great talent" will now "be in the recording studio
next week making his first album" (ITV.co.uk)
Paul scooped a £100,000 prize cheque but it is the appearance at
this year’s Royal Variety Performance – to be shown on December 3rd
2007 - that has him really excited. I’m sure we all can’t wait to
see it – but I bet we won’t have to: Paul’s going to be singing for
us all again very soon, I predict.
